E’ 8 marzo anche in Arabia Saudita, dove le donne del regno non alcun interesse ad oganizzare cene, ricorrenze e celebrazioni, ma a definire una petizione che nella giornata internazionale dedicato alla donna verra’ consegnata al Consiglio della Shura, il Parlamento consultivo, per chiedere la fine dell’autorita’ assoluta maschile nel regno petrolifero.
Secondo quanto affermato Haya Al-Manee, una delle 30 donne parlamentari nominate, nel febbraio dell’anno scorso, da re Abdullah Bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud in un provvedimento storico ed inedito per l’Arabia Saudita,  “Una donna e’ considerata una minorenne perenne,” affermazioni pubblicate dalle pagine del quotidiano Al-Riyadh.
Prosegue “Per le leggi del Regno un uomo è considerate minore fino al compimento del 18/mo anno di età – spiega – ma una donna, da un punto di vista legale, rimane sempre una minore, indipendentemente dall’eta’ “.
Nell’ultraconservatore regno saudita, che segue la rigida interpretazione wahabita dell’Islam, la segregazione dei sessi e’ pressoche’ totale e agli uomini e’ consegnata la custodia delle donne della famiglia. Tradotto in termini concreti, una donna non puo’ richiedere un documento di identita’, lasciare il paese, studiare, denunciare in tribunale o perfino eseguire operazioni chirurgiche, senza il consenso del suo “guardiano” maschio. Caso isolato al mondo, in Arabia Saudita alle donne sono ancora negati i diritti di voto e di guida. “Restrizioni imposte sulle donne che nemmeno hanno una base religiosa,” ribadisce Aziza Yousef.
Il documento, che al momento e’ sottoscritto da 25 note donne saudite, tra cui docenti universitarie, chiede ai 150 membri del Consiglio della Shura di avviare le misure necessarie per proteggere i diritti delle donne ed arginare le violenze domestiche. Sotto tale rubrica,  vanno inseriti il diritto- divieto in cui il custode impedisce matrimoni, li impone a minori o divorzia e ripudia senza valide ragioni. Una situazione di debolezza e subordinazione, quella della donna saudita rispetto all’uomo, a 360 gradi e con risvolti tragici e intollerabili. Ultimo, il caso della studentessa universitaria morta poche settimane fa tra le urla delle compagne perchè le autorità dell’ateneo, in mancanza del consenso di un custode della ragazza, non hanno permesso allo staff paramedico dell’ambulanza – tutti uomini – di entrare nel campus a soccorrerla.
