Prima missione estera per il  Premier Matteo Renzi quella conclusasi nella giornata di ieri a Tunisi. La scelta  della Tunisia come prima missione internazionale è per dare un segnale sul ruolo strategico che riveste il Mediterraneo nella sua azione di politica estera  in linea con l’azione politica dell’Unione Europea su questa area. Nelle sue note di intenti il giovane Premier ha affermato, nel corso della conferenza stampa con il Premier Tunisino Mehd Jomaa che “La centralità del Mediterraneo sarà punto fondamentale della politica estera e territoriale del nostro Paese e sarà punto fondamentale della presidenza italiana dell’Ue: non confine, ma centro dell’Europa”. Il lavoro che nei prossimi mesi dovrà affrontare l’Italia durante la Presidenza dell’Unione Europea non verterà unicamente verso gli aspetti istituzionali ed economici ma soprattutto sarà massima l’attenzione alla valorizzazione degli ideali, valori e speranze di cui il Mediterraneo ne sarà la “casa”.  A seguito dell’incontro i due Premier hanno posto grande attenzione sul problema dell’immigrazione con una volontà politica comune di rafforzare la cooperazione fra i due Paesi in particolare sull’intensificazione dell’attività del pattugliamento delle acque internazionali nel bacino del Mediterraneo. Acconto agli incontri politici Renzi non ha rinunciato al confronto con un gruppo di donne rappresentanti della società civile ed, in questo contesto, ha incontrato anche Lina Ben Mehnni la famosa blogger tunisina che il premier citò, insieme a Nelson Mandela, nel suo “Pantheon” nella sfida alle primarie del Pd con Pierluigi Bersani nel 2012. Scherzando con lei, il premier le ha ricordato di “averla citata come modello”, per poi però sottolineare, con una battuta, “che in quell’occasione – le primarie del 2012 – le ho perso. Ma ho guadagnato quelle successive”, ha aggiunto sorridendo.
